Oral Roberts University has over 40 years of experience in educating students in a Christian-based curriculum. As part of their School of Lifelong Education, ORU Online offers a very thorough and detailed course on becoming a Christian Counselor. The Online Christian Counseling Degree Program is designed “to prepare students for lay ministries of counseling within the context of the local church and church-related agencies” (ORU Online).
The Online Christian Counseling Degree is comprised of approximately 128 credits and includes a basic liberal arts program including Mathematics, American History, Social Sciences, Health & Physical Education, English and Biblical Literature to name a few.
After those courses are completed, the students can begin focusing on their major. They must complete a seminar in theological research, basic psychology, Christian Care giving, and courses on development. Students may also choose from a variety of electives including crisis intervention, substance abuse, pastoral ministry skills, and marriage and family.

Not only is this a terrific program on its own, it can also prepare students for a Master of Arts in Christian Counseling offered by the ORU School of Theology and Missions. This program is designed for those seeking state certification and a licensed professional, to further develop the ability to counsel those in the local congregations, as well as to continue to help understand counseling through biblical and theological methods. In order to enroll in this program, you must have a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or a college recognized by The Association for Biblical Higher Education, an undergrad GPA of 2.5, MAT score of 396 or GRE score of 900.
